Today we began our exploration of Rhino, a CAD modeling software, and it was a little bit perplexing. Despite having been told that Rhino is very user friendly, I struggled a tiny bit… This post is intended to provide an overview of my discoveries, which should be nice and simple. Here is a list of the useful things I made in my first half hour with the software:
- A rocketship.
Just kidding. In reality, I made a number of almost useful things, but couldn’t quite push them over the border between “what is that?” and “cool!”.
I did make a few things successfully:
- A point (wow)
- A line
- A “surface”
- A cube and inverted cone thing.
I also failed at the following: making a hole in my cube, joining my two surfaces with a gradient / smooth edges, putting my cone thing on top of my cube, and undoing whatever I did to replace my top view with another right view.
Overall, it was a learning experience. I expect a lot more discovery will come with time, once I get used to the tools and techniques!
